Since upgrading to Geeklog 1.3.8-1 I am unable to update user settings. Any attempt to make any changes results in the message:

The email address provided is already in use for another account.

This was an install using the full package, not the upgrade.

Does this happen with all user accounts or only with a specific one? bye, Dirk

You can update a user using admin/user, however, the message you receive (in English) is "The new user has been successfully saved."

It is only when using usersettings.php?mode=edit that the error message "The email address provided is already in use for another account" is received.

I tried turning "off" the ability for users to change their user name, but had no effect. Still can't make any changes use usersettings.php

When I revert to Geeklog 1.3.8 usersettings.php, I am able to save changes.

That\'s normal (not intuitive, but normal).

So did you check the obvious? bye, Dirk

Dirk, it must be hard to answer as many support requests as you do and not slip into unhelpful comments. Let\'s assume \"check the obvious\" refers to the duplicate e-mail address. Answer: I\'m not changing the e-mail address. I\'m trying to make any change -- for instance, info in the bio section or personal home page -- and all attempts to change anything are answered with the error message that the duplicate e-mail address. Of course, the address is a duplicate: I\'m NOT changing the e-mail address. That\'s the existing address for the user. Now you haven\'t answered by \"obvious\" point: When I revert to usersettings.php from the orginal 1.3.8 release, the trouble goes away. Since this isn\'t a security fix, I can live with 1.3.8 usersettings.php until I experience whatever bug prompted the \"fix\" to 1.3.8-1. John Hughes

Yeah, sorry. I\'ve mixed this issue up with the fix in admin/user.php.

I did get that bit. I was, however, under the impression that the check for a duplicate email address was only introduced in this upgrade (while it was in fact already introduced in 1.3.8). So if you had duplicate addresses in the database, you would only now (after the upgrade) see that error message. That can still happen with admin/user.php but not with usersettings.php.

I have no explanation. It works for me, whether I change something in the account information or not. Also, the three changes that have been made to that file since 1.3.8 shouldn\'t make any difference here either. Anyone else with this problem? bye, Dirk

Ah, the answer: Geeklog _NOW_ checks for duplicate e-mail addresses and _IF_ a duplicate exists, it complains. So, I check the obvious, and sure enough the e-mail address I use on that account is used in another of my accounts. Thank you, Dirk, for the help. John Hughes

Dear Dirk

As Admin, I have created a number of members (admin, basic user, etc) using the same email address for testing purposes.

I would like to know if the system will allow for Admin to permit duplicate email addresses.

Thank you.

No. Geeklog's policy is (now) that any email address in the database must be unique.

bye, Dirk
