Geeklog Groupware?
Geekware
Anonymous
I\'m sure lots of folks would love to have some kind of groupware integration into geeklog. I remember it being talked about a while back.
The hands-down winner in open source groupwares currently is phpGroupware. Do y\'all think it\'s possible to bring these features into geeklog, or at least be able to integrate existing groupwares like phpGroupware?
Info on phpGroupware:
The most active site right now for it is here. There\'s a demo page on that site.
For the English demo of version 0.9.1.6, go here with demo3 as username and demo as password.
There are numerous cool add-ons found on this site
Their older English project page is here and it will soon be http://www.phpgroupware.org
There\'s also axisGroupware, which is it\'s own distribution version of phpGroupware.

I\'ve been looking into the groupware apps for sometime and many of them have grown to include many portal like features and their own API. Another real nice project is dotproject here
Integrated Project management or task mangement with the discussion forum and document management is a great suite for company intranet or online project collaboration.
How much interest would there be in the GL business community for something like this and would you pay for such a integrated solution?

Blaine, I\'m interested in more document management capabilities in GL. We\'re using GL in a pilot mode for an internal portal for sales and marketing information. (We\'re also using a FAQ knowledgebase --I\'ve looked a few and, among other things, I like the way it provides a the question and brief summary of the answer after a search. It also has a method for attaching a file to a FAQ)
We would like a method for easily \"attaching\" files to a Story,
Section, Event (or Forum post, etc.) Many of the project management tools out there like dotproject have a way to share documents. Thanks for listening, Bob.

Groupware is usually a project management program. GL is more for sharing news and discussions.
A groupware usually has a time sheet to see who checks in and who checks out and a note area for that person to enter the part of the project he has accomplished in that time, and at the end of the month that person\'s total work our will be calculated for pay. It also has a list of projects showing the deadline and the percentage of current accomplishment. Of course a forum to discus the project, a file storage, an internal mail, and calender to share.
Each groupware is a little different from the other. The best way is to visit one of the sites linked above.
Hope this help.
Sam

Okay so it\'s more business oriented with a target toward project management. I can see where this would be valuable is certain applications. But more towards vertical markets. It wouldn\'t be for use of everyone?

It\'s not just business-oriented, although that was the specific example given by samstone. Groupware can be used to help any collective, collaborative project. In that sense, you can include a wiki as part of that definition, especially for knowledge/document management/sharing. But while wikis are usually more for simple text discussion/documentation, explicit groupwares usually have a shared calendar, a note area, a to-do list, mail, forum, file attachment ...etc. So basically, it provides for a central location where everyone involved in a collaborative environment can always go to see what others are doing and to document what they\'ve done.

Another advantage would be to have a complete internal communication centre with mails, forum, trouble ticket, email client etc. with 1 bridge or plugin installation.

Is there a GL plug in/hack to integrate Geeklog with one of the groupware packages?
Alternatively, is there an advanced file management/download plug for Geeklog in that allows check in/check out tied to a specific user?
Many thanks
