freakingout
Hello. I am running Geeklog 1.3.8 on a Redhat 7.3 system with Apache 1.3. I am having a problem that I cannot pinpoint and was wondering if anyone else had this problem. For whatever reason, every now and then my webserver\'s CPU usage and load average go through the roof and the box is not usable unless I kill all httpd commands. At first I thought it was due to the Visitor Stats plugin, but even after deletion, it still does it. When doing a \"top\" I show nothing but httpd commands with a load average over 100 (it should be almost 0 i thought). I really have no idea what is causing it, but I know it is GL that is doing it. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it.

How about turning everything off except the basic installation and then slowly turn on things until you isolate what is causing it.

I think I have located the source. I have been using the Weather Plugin that I believe Squatty created. I will be uninstalling that plugin and going with the plugin block instead. I will let you all know if something else comes up. Thanks for the help!

I can assure you the Weather plugin is not your problem. I have it running on multiple (large scale) sites without issue. The only way it could be impacting performance is if the external HTTP calls are blocked (firewall, routing, ect.). This would result in a socket timeout which takes several seconds to exit. If you do discover something that indicates the plugin, please reply back to this thread with the specifics of your finding.

I apologize for the accusation squatty. It most certainly is not your weather plugin. The problem seems to be of a bigger scope because even with all plugins turned off, my CPU usage makes my server completely unusable. So the way my system has geeklog setup is not ideal and my not be good enough to run GL...... Cry
