Search Engine Friendly

Hello! I recently started reading about how to gain top rankings in various search engines such as Google, Inktomi and etc.... They all mention that the current CMS/Blog systems use \"session id\'s\" and that makes hard for the search robots to crawl a particular site running Geeklog. I have 2 questions, is there a mod that will remove Session ID\'s from Geeklog, if at all, Geeklog uses them. and, are there future plans to make Geeklog SEO compatible..... Thanks a lot!

Geeklog doesn\'t use session ids in the URLs, so that is not a problem.

SEO? Search Engine Optimisation? Geeklog sites are already picked up nicely by Google. I guess there is room for improvement in the themes, though. They could make better use of structural markup (using H1, H2, etc. tags, for story titles for example). bye, Dirk

The only real problem with cms and search engines is searching all the content. If a story was on the index page when the search engine found it, it might not be there in the future. There is a plugin on gplugs.sourceforge.net that makes all the stories into a nice linkable list for search engines. This does help. The number one way to get lissted in any search engine is content, content, content. Do a search in google for \"little golden book\", you will find a geeklog site in the top 4(use to be 1 a few weeks ago). Probably because some of the front page stories aren\'t so good right now.

And my Geeklog site shows up as #1 in Google if you search for \"RV-8 project\". My site has always done well in Google without my making any special effort, other than frequently updated content. I\'m also #1 on Altavista, Yahoo, Excite and Webcrawler, using the same search term. Lycos doesn\'t seem to know about my site at all though for some reason. Don\'t worry about Geeklog and search engines.
