Number of stories on the homepage

ive edited all the topics and changed the number of stories to 6, but i still have 10 stories showing on the homepage also changed $_CONF[\'limitnews\'] in the config.php file to 6, not sure what that does? any ideas?

If you are log in, then you need to change your personal settings for stories. In the User Functions block, click on Preferences.
