your post is missing something
i dont need what?
the require statement?
that is the suggested method in the photo album docs to include it in a template driven website
i also tried the "include" statement instead of "require"
should i try to cut and paste the spgm.php file into the static page? (this would be the same as using "include" right?)
then edit any url references to be relative from "staticpages/index.php" ??
OR
is there a plug in for a photo album I can get?

I would suggest you read the documentation on the static pages plugin under the static pages link. There are very specific limits set on how you can use PHP within a static pages. (Start by reading the FAQ on the static pages plugin)
If you need to prot a lot of existing php code to geeklog, you may benefit by using my staticpages 1.3.2 hack in the downloads section, but only use this if you are sure you need to use PHP in that way.

The <?php tags and everything needs to display as from a RETURN. No echo or print statement.
