I am adding a lot of links to GL. I have added about 1200 links and I have a few thousand more to add. Every time I go to the add a link page it loads the entire links database. It's beginning to take a long time to load. Can I do something so it does not list all the links every time I add a link?

The Admin's Link page should really be using paging (as the other Admin pages do). I'd suggest you submit that as a feature request ...

Is anyone thinking of making the links properly category based? I mean with parent/child categories. It would need a new SQL table as far as I can tell. Would that be a 1.3.9 feature? 1.4 series?

There are no such plans at the moment.

You may want to look at the phplinks integration that Squatty did (there's also an update for 1.3.8).
