Story title as Page title

Like the subject says im wanting to get the title of the single story in each topic as the title on the actual page.
I've had a go at popping the variable for the story title in lip-common.php (from memory $A['title'] )in replace of $_CONF['site_slogan'] where i think {page_title} is defined for the templates. This didnt work
So is the do able or not? There is only one page per topic.
