GL 1.3.8.1: News editor "SHOW ONLY IN TOPIC" Problem

Hi,
sometimes I need to have a story featured on top of its section but not on the front, portal home page
I do this by selecting the FEATURED and SHOW ONLY IN TOPIC modes, but to my surprise
the SHOW ONLY IN TOPIC mode is never saved and when I come back to the editor the previous
unchanged SHOW ON FRONT PAGE mode is still there! and the section is still the top most one in the portal home page.
Is there any way I can overcome this?

I believe you can only have one "Featured" story at a time, and that always puts it at the top of the first page.
There is "showfirstasfeatured" option in config.php, see your docs/config.html for explanation.
