SQL error again I'm gettin' angry

angry
After I deleted all SQL data due to my last problem ( http://www.geeklog.net/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=3&showtopic=28759 ) i reinstalled GL.
After the first article was written I wanted to write another one..

I previewed it and hit the back button, made some changes an submitted it. How could i?!

BAM!

Mon 12 Jan 2004 22:50:48 CET - 1104: The SELECT would examine more rows than MAX_JOIN_SIZE. Check your WHERE and use SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 or SET SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE=# if the SELECT is ok. SQL in question: SELECT COUNT(*) AS count from gl_stories WHERE (tid IN ('Aktuell','Allgemeines','JRA'))

This definitely IS a bug. The MySQL database is working perfectly! Evil

I don't want to delete and reinstall everything everytime after posting an article, so please tell me how to solve this problem.

What version of MySQL are you running? Also, have you tried adjusting SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE to see if that fixes your problem?

How can I adjust SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE?

Login to your sql database over a shell, then type

SET SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE=x;

where x is some number.
Try increasing x until it works.

Also, techincally Geeklog doesn't support that version of MySQL, so there might be an incompatibility.

SET SQL_MAX_JOIN_SIZE=x;
I went up to 2000000.
Nothing changed.

Then I tried SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS=1 but the error message was still there.

MySQL 4.0.x should be fine, it's 4.1.x we're not supporting (mainly because of security issues).

bye, Dirk

Also, I see there's an older thread with basically the same kind of problem - and no solution either.

Are you on the "standard" 4.0.16 or 4.0.16-Max (like the poster in the above thread)?

bye, Dirk

MySQL 4.0.16-standard-log

I also informed my webhost about the problem, but no answer so far.

Today I got the answer from my webhost. Not very promising though.

I'll try to translate it:
The "error" actually is because of the MySQL version 4.0.16. We increase the versions constantly, however only, if it is absolutely guaranteed that it is also really stable.
You will receive a newsletter form us automatically, as soon as we provide a higher version.

Seems like I'll have to wait Evil

Don't they see that 0.17 is "really stable"?
