Basic Linux Question
Whoosh!
Anonymous
If I take a Rehat 9 drive out a machine and put it into another Redhat 9 machine as a slave drive, would Redhat see the added drive and its files?
Thanks to anyone who might help.

Well. Thanks for not replying (I really mean it). I took my linex hard drive and plugged it in. Linux picked it right up as /dev/hdc.
Then I did a quick fdisk -l /dev/hdc and saw the partition with my data.
Then I created a directory /mnt/hdc5 (the fifth partition had my Geeklog installation) on /dev/hda by doing this "mkdir /mnt/hdc5/"
Then I mounted /dev/hdc5 to /mnt/hdc5 by typing "mount /dev/hdc5 /mnt/hdc5"
Then I was able to browse my added hardrive as if it were part of /dev/hda! I simply copied my geeklog stuff through /mnt/hdc5.
This is all very basic to you folks. But I just learned it. I see the value in this Linux structure. Once I mounted the added drive, it behaved as if it was part of one big linux drive. Unbelievable.
I will never use a Windows system as my main system again. Linux is very forgiving. I will only use Windows for my Photoshop machine (and maybe a game or two). And that's it!
I feels really good to learn something.

Well, this is a geeklog forum, not a linux forum.

If you are not doing four color separation work, give the GIMP a try.

Too many hands on my time.

Hmmm. Perhaps you're right about my posting the Linux question here. I got so "heads down" into my problem never really thought much about it. Apologies to any offended party.
I'll try The GIMP. I'm not doing 4 color stuff. Just theming for GL and such. If it works, then I can abandon Windows for everything but games (which I don't really play much anyway).
Thanks!
