Dirk, Blaine, Anybody else,

I run qmail with qmail-scanner, spamassassin and clamav on my mail server and whenever i receive mail from any Geeklog site the message is flagged and automagically quarantined. The reason is as the subject states:

"problem 'Illegal MIME chars found in header'"

I have a copy of the message in my quarantine dir, not exactly sure what's making it catch that particular message. any suggestions?!

I've seen this before and I don't think Geeklog is doing anything wrong.

AFAIK, there was a bug in an old version of Microsoft Outlook that could be exploited by inserting additional linefeeds (or was it carriage returns) in the header of an email. Since then, some anti-virus software has been reporting any properly formatted email header as a potential threat.

However, according to the RFC for email headers, the lines in such a header must be separated with both a carriage return and a line feed. While it does work on most mail servers to use only the line feed, that would be wrong and I simply refuse to deviate from standards just to work around some buggy anti-virus software ...

Actually, if you search Google for "Illegal MIME chars found in header" the first result returned is a post from the geeklog-users mailing list that talks about the same thing Mr. Green

bye, Dirk

Thanks... I should have known better to look thru google. Google's a smrt guy.

With the sr4 update (to 1.3.8) i noticed when writing up stories that simply pressing enter for line breaks and saving the story does not translate into line breaks and that i have to use BR... is this intended, or am i hallucinating?

Nothing has changed there in 1.3.8-1sr4. Please note that line breaks (i.e. where you press enter) are only honored when posting in "plain text" mode and that the forum is handling these things differently, so maybe you're confusing story and forum posts.

bye, Dirk
