The use of PHP has to be enabled for each individual Static Page. Make sure you check the PHP checkbox below the content edit field. If that checkbox is not checked, your PHP code will be displayed as the page's content instead (i.e. it will not be executed).
Where is this box?

I recopied the editor.thtml to my plugins/staticpages/templates directory just to make sure. Also, I checked my staticpages admin group and it has rights to staticpages.edit and staticpages.delete, but I don't see staticpages.php.
am I missing something?

If you don't have the staticpages.PHP feature (please double check), you can add it manually using phpMyAdmin:
INSERT INTO gl_features (ft_name, ft_descr) VALUES ('staticpages.PHP','Ability to use PHP in static pages')
(replacing "gl_features" with the proper table name if you're using a prefix other than "gl_")
After that, you can assign that feature to the Static Page Admin group which should then be able to use PHP in static pages.
bye, Dirk

Static pages are filtered like stories. You could add the script tag to the list of acceptable HTML if you really want that.
Or you could write some PHP (now that you've activated it that returns the Javascript code.
