We are hoping to slightly modify the id creation to include a phone #. I have changed the template for new users and changed the sql that inserts into the user table. I have also change the code for the user.php mode that creates the id and exposed the new variable for the phone #. It still does not write to the user table (the other variables do still write ...id and email.....but not the new phone variable....any thoughts out there

Not sure what the creation of an id has to do with phone numbers ... Am I right in assuming that you're extending the gl_users table to include a field for a phone number?

As a general rule, you should not modify any of Geeklog's tables.

Instead, you should create your own table and store your information in there. Geeklog's plugin interface should provide you with everything you need. That may require a little more work but it's much cleaner and will save you from possible problems when upgrading (not to mention having to do all your modifications again).
