I was wondering if it was possible to make a forum read only? I see that you can make them invisible to all but a specific group but I'd like the forum to be visible to all but only allow certain user groups access to post.

The forum does not currently support that without hacking it. I have been considering this for a future release.

Thanks for the response blaine. I looked over all the documentation and couldn't find anything about whether it was possible. I thought that I had overlooked the answer but I see that I didn't.

One more question for you... Is it possible for a forum topic to be visible to all users but block entry to the topic to a set of users while allowing all users to see that the topic is there?

You can lock a topic so that no furhter posts can be made. You have this option as moderator - accessible when editing the top level post for the topic or when creating a new topic.
