How can I make comments look like forums?

The comments after articles are frustrating because all you get is repeats of the title. In forums, however, you get to see the comments without having to click into them.

Is there a way to incorporate the forum style in article comments? I have thought about eliminating comments and creating a link to a forum topic for each article, but I think I would have to create the topic and the link manually?

Is there a better way to get the complete comment to show instead of just the title?

Blessings!

I like your idea of a link into a forum topic of the same name. I've seen other websites that did something like this and it works, and looks, really good.

How about setting the default style to "nested"?

$_CONF['comment_mode'] = 'nested';

in config.php.

Even when 'nested' I just get nested copies of the title. What I would like to do is have the text of all of the comments show on the screen, just like they do in forums.

Try using the "Flat" comment display option (instead of nested or threaded).

Flat still doesn't do it. I just get all the titles repeated in a different place. What I would like is:

Comment 1 date,time,etc.
This is comment 1 text
Comment 2 date...
This is comment 2 text
.
.
.

Nested, threaded, flat, just gives me varieties of:

Comment date, time
Comment date, time
Comment date, time
.
.
.

You have to click into each comment to see what it says.

Thanks for the help!

Blessings!

Something must be wrong with your install then, as both the nested and the flat display will list the text of the comments (that's why Vinny and myself suggested using them ...).

Which version of Geeklog are you using? Which theme?

There's also a bug in 1.3.9rc1 regarding the display of comments, although I can't tell you right now what exactly was wrong with it (it's fixed in CVS and here on the site).

no no, try again.

Nested is what you want. With Nested you will see all the comments open not just the title.

Check it out on my site scurvydawg.com Seriously it works. I far prefer nested over all the other options.

I am not logged in because I am at work - Shhh

OK! I will try again! Nested is probably the way to go.

I am running 1.3.8.

Thanks! and Blessings!
