I wrapped the contributedby_anchortag variable around the contributedby_photo variable so when a user clicks on that pic, it will bring them to their profile.

Like this:
{start_contributedby_anchortag}{contributedby_photo}{end_contributedby_anchortag}

The problem I am having is there is a blue border around the entire photo (as a normal undefined color link is blue, then purple when clicked on).

Anyone know how to rid of this?

sounds like the link, vlink, alink attributes. Maybe try setting "border=0".
