Error in mail.php

Folks, I'm getting this error:
Warning: mail(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The fifth parameter is disabled in SAFE MODE. in /home/oculos/geek/system/pear/Mail/mail.php on line 112
Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/oculos/public_html/geek/lib-common.php on line 3259
How can I fix this? If it's a server restriction, how can I overcome it?

The 'mail' method will not work with safe_mode restrictions in effect. Try using 'smtp' or 'sendmail'.
There's now an FAQ entry explaining the email options, see if that helps.
