Hello all,
I've been finding my way around Geeklog the last few days, and I've encountered a situation I can't resolve. I've searched the forums and google and found related-but-not-applicable answers to this question.
I want to have a different numbers of posts per page appear under each topic. For example, I want 1 post to a page for an Articles Topic, while have 5 posts per page for a Books Topic.
This seems like what the Stories/Page field would control in the Admin Topic Editor, but regardless of what numbers I place there, I always get the maximum number of posts (as determined by my user prefs and the config.php settings).
For example, I have 10 articles and 10 books. In Topic Editor, I have Stories/Page set to 1 for the Articles Topic, and 5 for the Books Topic. In my User Preferences, I have my Maximum Stories set to 10. In config.php, I have limitnews set to 10 and minnews set to 1.
With these settings, I expected that when I'm viewing the Articles section, I would see 1 post to a page (10 pages), and when I'm viewing the Books section, I would see 5 posts to a page (2 pages).
Instead, I see all the posts assigned to a particular topic.
Is what I'm looking for possible? What is Stories/Page used for?
Thanks.
Jason.

Thanks, Sam. Unfortunately, leaving the "Display Preferences" for my user empty (or 0) results in the field being reset to 1 when it's saved. I also am not sure how I would have a empty value for anonymous/not-signed-in users.
I did a quick stroll through the code looking for 'limitnews' and found code in index.php that seems to indicate that stories/page is only used by logged in users who aren't the admin, and is ignored otherwise.
Is this correct?
Jason.

It seems we have some inconsistencies in handling these options. The code in usersettings.php actually makes sure that you can not set the maxstories to 0 - which would be needed to pick up the default number of stories per topic, as defined for the topic.
This needs an overhaul and maybe even an additional checkbox like "use system defaults" or something like that.
Could you submit a bug report for this, please?
bye, Dirk
