Upgraded to the newest Geeklog and bugs...( 1.3.9)

I had 1.3.8 version for the longest time and I never never had any problems. I loved it.
Now, I upgraded, on a test server - thank god and I am seeing problems.
1.
I log in with the right password, user name and hit enter. Site is parsed and when it returns, it looks the same as before the log in.
Now - with the login name and password textboxes empty - I hit login, I am logged in.
HMm..not sure why this happens but I have never seen it.
Should I look at the errorlog and it only says:
Sat Apr 24 04:16:59 2004 - Succesfully installed the forum Plugin!
Sun Apr 25 00:55:04 2004 - Could not open the file. /backend/geeklog.rdf
could that have prevented geeklog from working correctly with the login mechanizm?

could be a cookie issue. If you are using same machine that you accessed your live site with. Look in config.php and make sure the cookie name is different from your live site cookie name. This way you can log into both sites without problem.
also change permissons on backend/geeklog.rdf to 777 if you haven't already.
I log in with the right password, user name and hit enter. Site is parsed and when it returns, it looks the same as before the log in.
I've seen this before
happened to me on my "test" server. my prob was that i set up the siteurl in config.php as http://192.168.01/sitename and then i would call up the page using "localhost" rather than 192...
when you log in and it doesn't seem to change, according to your cookies you "are" actually logged in. I would click a link to open in a new window and low and behold, there was the admin menu as if i had been logged in.
This all happened cuz i was working across a few machines and didn't keep my stuff consistant.
hope some of that longwindedness helps you in some way.

This is in my case true.
I am also using this as my site:
http://65.254.36.162/~ppacyna
but that is a real server....
I changed the name of the cookie, but how can I find the cookie on my hard drive? Win XP Pro here.

http://65.254.36.162/~ppacyna
try using this address http://sydney.dnstraffic.net/~ppacyna/ rather than the IP address. now log on and see if you see the admin menu...
which one did you define in your config.php? the ip or the name?

what do these mean:
$_CONF['cookie_session'] = 'gl_session';
$_CONF['cookie_name'] = 'polishtrainer2004';
$_CONF['cookie_password'] = 'password';
$_CONF['cookie_ip'] = 0;
$_CONF['cookie_path'] = '/';
$_CONF['cookiedomain'] = '';
$_CONF['cookiesecure'] = 0;
How can I see the cookie that my site creates on the hard drive? If I named it polishtrainer2004, will that be the name of the file?

i did what you asked. I replaced the ip address with the name and it works fine now.
Why is that? WHy would an ip address screw things up?

the links in GL are relative paths so if you set config.php $_CONF['site_url'] to an ip, then your links will start with an ip, and if you set a name, then the links will begin with a name. If you set it to a name and use an ip, then your relative paths won't function properly.
