Changing links at top of page

Sinn

Hi there,
Just installed Geeklog, and am configuring everything now. I'm trying to find where exactly I can change the links that appear at the top of the page (contribute | web resources | past polls | calendar | advanced search | site statistics | ) I'm using the 'clean' theme if that helps any.

Thanks

Open your layoutfolder, move into "Clean".
Find the file header.thtml and open it in ie notepad.
There you can customise the layout for your header
And all other .thtml-files in the dir "clean" could be customised the same way to change other things in your layout

Doesn't appear to be there. The only relevant thing I found in header.thtml was a reference to menuitem.thtml, which has the template of the links I'm talking about, but not the actual data for them, like the URL and link text.

Sinn: To get rid of all those links, you'll want to delete
Text Formatted Code
{menu_elements}{plg_menu_elements}

and replace with the links you want (be sure to give them a
Text Formatted Code
class="navbar"

attribute in the clean theme).

If you are using StaticPages in your menubar and you want to keep them there, leave in the call to
Text Formatted Code
{plg_menu_elements}

I have a related question for anyone that can answer it:
StaticPages has the wonderful option of being able to edit permissions for each Static Page. The greatest thing about this is that I can put a link to a static page into the menubar, and then restrict that link to logged-in users.

I want to be able to add a link to the menubar and reserve the option to restrict access to it, similar to the behavior I described above. Unfortunately, the method of hard-coding menubar links I described to Sinn won't allow for this. Is there a plugin out there already that can do this? If not, the code should be fairly simple, right? How would I go about it?

I have no idea if this will work or not, but...

try using the static page link feature by creating a static page with its menu item up in the header.. you can set permissions or whatever on it then like you described, but now.. do a really quick redirect from the static page to the actual page that you want to link to. does that make sense? the static page would have either a redirect in the head tag or in the frameset. head would be better i think.

machinari: Yeah, that's about as far as I've gotten with simple solutions. I was hoping to avoid redirects, but I might have to resort to that.

I successfully embedded an addressbook into GL using a frameset in a staticpage, but I hate framesets and wanted to avoid them whenever possible.
