Installing Menu Plugin

I expect for most this is pretty straightforward, but for me this is a bit of a maze.
I have the final folder, menu from the archive. Within which there are several other folders, including INSTALL file (no extension) and some others.
I read somewhere that something needs to be copied over to the public html folder, but the only public_html folder is the opne I have installed geeklog into so it looks like this:
home/public_html/geeklog/subfolders
I have NO idea whatsoever on what I am doing, and I saw an index/php file, but if I upload this won't it overwrite my existing file ruining it?
I tried to follow the Plugin developers guide, but even this is confusing to me. I would be very grateful for anyone that has installed to please advise as I am complete and utter idiot at this.
Thanks in advance
