I've taken the links code and merged it with the universal plugin and a handy bit of code from Blaine to make a new links plugin (imaginatively names Glinks). It is essentially the same as the links functionality, but copies your existing links to new tables and is hierarchical. It uses TreeMenu.php.

If anyone would like to try a beta release, download it from euans.net/blog. The submission section is not yet tried yet, but on install it should

1) copy your links to a glinks_links table
2) create a glinks_category table and populate it with your existing category names
3) edit the copied links data to contain the new catagory ids instead of the existing names
4) copy the submission cue to glinks_submissions

Still some way to go, but I thought that separating out the links functionality from the core might be a good thing. Any ideas on that? Also, I will not have time to work on this, so if anyone is interested in taking it over... Blaine? Dirk?

Cheers,

Euan.

Yup. My host was updating Cpanel and MySQL was offline for a moment then. Should be back up now.

I'e tidied up the code a bit more, so that the category section seems to work fine.

Browsing links is OK but needs a menu bar along the top (a tree to where you are in the links so it is easier to back up a level).

Submission not tested very well.

If anyone wants to try and install it, let me know how it goes.

Again, if anyone wants to take this over, please let me know.

Cheers,

Euan.
