In setting up the various groups and user permission assignments, it is often useful to be able to view the site from the perspective of a particular user. Is there a way that the admin account can log in as a user? Since the passwords are encrypted in MySQL, we can't just look up the password to do this the conventional way.

Any ideas?

I use a ghost account for that.

I have a ghost account that I use for checking some things as well. But I'm talking about when user X sends email and says "I'm supposed to have access to FOO, but I can't see it." I want to be able to log in as him and see exactly what he sees. And that can't be done with a ghost account if the problem lies in the permissions that have actually been assigned to X. Unless there's a way to "copy permissions" from X to GHOST.

You could copy/paste your password in the user table using phpMyAdmin. The only problem is that the 'real' user cannot login while you changed the password. make sure to put the old password back again later.

I hadn't actually considered that. But, for the reasons you suggest, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with that. But at least it is a solution. Thanks.

I certainly would find it useful to be able to log in as a user, currently I can not really get in there and change any of their settings such as the daily digest.

Good idea.
