Hi

This likely not a geeklog problem but any help would be appreciated

I have 2 geeklog sites running - one with geeklog 1.39 and one with 1.39sr1. Both are working fine except for sending emails. The email function for registration and email users was working perfectly but now both sites only send to addresses on the same domain and not outside domains.. - I receive notification of a new registration using a domin based email but the email fails to deliver to the recipient. If I create a new user using a domain based email, it works fine.

I am using the 'mail' function.

I have requested info from the hosting provider but no response yet.

Safe mode is off, php 4.3.6 - pear is installed - previously I was using with pear='false' and it worked - it makes no diff if I change to 'true'

Any suggestions welcome

thanks

To try and fix the problem in the previous post, I have been trying to set up alternatively SMTP and sendmail as options without any luck.

PHP info gives the following:

sendmail_from no value
sendmail_path /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

SMTP localhost
smtp_port 25

I have set SMTP in config.php with

// SMTP parameters (for 'backend' => 'smtp')
'host' => 'smtp.localhost',
'port' => '25',
'auth' => false,
'username' => 'xxxxxxxx', - I have used the hosting site admin login for user / pwd??
'password' => 'xxxxxxxx'

This is the message I get with SMTP as backend

Warning: fsockopen(): php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known in /usr/lib/php/Net/Socket.php on line 108

Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to smtp.localhost:25 in /usr/lib/php/Net/Socket.php on line 108

I also tried sendmail with no luck - given the phpinfo above, what should I use as the path and args - cpanel tells me to use the path '/usr/sbin/sendmail' - and notes that some scripts require -t

In this case, the 'usr' should be typed as 'usr' or do I sub the actual user name?

I have left 'have pear' as true.

Any light on this would be appreciated

thanks

Hi

Finally found out the host has disabled scipted mail to non domain.

Still have no luck in setting up the SMTP and no response from the host. - does the username field in config.php require the smtp- prefix?

Any reccommendations on a good host for geeklog and moodle sites - moodle uses chat which many don't like.

The SMTP settings are the same that you would enter in your email client if you were to use that SMTP server for sending emails. So you need an SMTP account on that server that you can use. Also, instead of "smtp.localhost", try the proper host name, i.e. with the domain name instead of "localhost".

bye, Dirk

Thanks Dirk

- my host has just come back with the smtp info similar to your suggestion but it does not work, but is a step closer.

- I used the same smtp info in moodle and also did not work

- with moodle, I deleted the smtp info and it uses the inbuilt php mailer OK

- I remember reading some where that geeklog may have a similar option?

I've requested host for further smtp assist

thanks

Thanks again Dirk

Still no luck though

The message I am getting from the smtp option is

Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to xx.xx.xx.xx:25 in /usr/lib/php/Net/Socket.php on line 108

Does this look like an authorisation problem??

thanks
