File Management: Possible to do large files?

I'm wondering if I can upload large files through the file management plug-in. I'm guessing it is limited to the PHP setting. If so, is there a way to manually upload via FTP, then manually add the entry to the file management page?

I have mine set at 10 megs and I have difficulties getting anything past approx 8 megs or so. What I end up doing is manually moving the files to the proper dir where its supposed to be in and then go into mysql and manually creating the links for it. Then I go back to varify that it works and if not, then I click on edit in the My Downloads, and make the changes back on the filemgnt. I don't know what else to do other than that. If someone else has a better solution, please post here.

yup, there is an easier way.
both of these options are discussed at portalparts.
change the php limits with some funky ini commands--search portalparts forum for that one cuz i don't remember the commands.
or, and prolly simpler, upload a small dummy file through file mgmnt with the same name as the file you want to upload--this takes care of the database entries, etc., then just ftp the large file, overwriting the small dummy file. viola. that is also discussed in the forum at portalparts. or maybe i saw it here..
