Dynamic meta tags using variables

In my header I want to use:
<META NAME="description" CONTENT="{story_topic_name}: {story_title}">
Per the GL Doc, those variables are only available in the story files. Is there anything I can do to reference them?
A suggestion for Geeklog2, if you guys can add a Keywords field to stories, so I can enter "antivirus, symantec, virus signatures" or whatever pertains to the article - then this field could be referenced by a variable called "meta_keywords". The What's Related block could also cross reference this field with other articles, or have a seperate block called Related Articles.
In fact it would be nice if there was a set of meta variables. meta_keywords, meta_description, meta_abstract, meta_author, meta_revisit, meta_rating, etc. usable in the header file.
But for now I want to get the above working...

Meta tags are ignored by most search engines anyway (because of misuse). I think it would be more important (and helpful with search engines) to have a theme that uses better HTML markup, e.g. uses H1, H2, etc. for headlines.
Having said that, I think it would be nice to be able to store some sort of meta information with stories that could be used not only for meta tags but also for other things (e.g. by Geeklog's own search function). Something to think about for GL2 ...
bye, Dirk

I am so glad you mentioned the H1 tags, I just assumed my template was using them because it looked like it. Well I checked and they only look like h1 tags because that's how they're setup in the style sheet -
fixed now, that should help a lot with Google

This is not true. As an experiment, I have used keywords JUST in the meta tags, and nowhere else in the page, and it showed up in the serp's.

For which search engines?

Proof that media tags do not matter.. take a look at http://cnop.net get 500 - 800 unique search engine referrs per month. No keyword tags are on the site at all. Description tag and the follow tags telling search engines to crawl the site and to follow the links are the only ones that truly matter.

It all depends on the search engine.
