I was going through the Geeklog database and I have a question about what some of the fields are used for. I know what the "about" and "pgpkey" fields are for, but how are "userspace", "tokens", and "lastgranted" fields used? The "totalcomments" field seems self explanatory, but all values are 0, so maybe I'm missing something there too?

Thanks Dirk,
So I'm free to utilize those fields if need be? I added a few custom fields to the gl_users table, but I could have used those instead?
I know, I'll never be able to upgrade my GL installation, but at this point, it's so customized that even the srX releases need to go through extensive customization to work properly.
And, as usual, your extremely prompt replies to my posts impresses me greatly. I've never gotten such quick responses from any software vendor, and I sometimes had to pay for the support. You and the rest of the Geeklog team are the best. Keep up the great work!

No, please don't use them. Our recommendation is to leave Geeklog's tables alone and create your own tables if you need to store anything. The plugin API enables you to be informed when users are added or deleted, so you can update your tables accordingly.
bye, Dirk

Dirk,
I currently don't have any use for the extra fields in gl_userinfo, but I mentioned the fields that I added to gl_users and the customization to my GL installation. The site I'm running is for a high school alumni that graduated almost 20 years ago. I've had several questions about changing the way it displays the names of posters. What I did was add "lastname" and "maidenname" to the gl_users table, and modified all instances of "username" being displayed to show "fullname" "lastname" - "fullname" is now used as the first name. I also customized the registration and Account Information pages to include the new fields.
The reason I went through that explanation was to give you an idea of how I customized Geeklog to suit my needs. I realize that I could have created a whole new table, but I found it easier to do it the way I did.
Again, thanks for your help.

Well, you could have done the same thing using Geeklog's Plugin API. Which would have had the added benefit that upgrades would be much easier.
And adding fields to Geeklog's tables may cause problems should we decide to add new fields (possibly of the same name ...) to the tables in a future version.
bye, Dirk

I realize that I'll not be able to upgrade to a newer version by customizing it the way I did, but that's the way I chose to do it. When you come out with a newer version, I'll have to figure out what I want to do at that point. For now, I think that GL 1.3.9 is excellent the way it is, except that I needed something a little different that didn't come with the standard Geeklog. The high school alumni site is my second installment, and the first only has customizations to the themes. I won't have any problems upgrading that one, but I'll probably have to keep the second one as is.
Again, I appreciate your help - and the work you've done on Geeklog. I've looked at several other CMS programs over the last couple of years, and I found Geeklog to be the best.
