COM_printUpcomingEvents and others

I'm developing a website using code from Geeklog, specifically using it as a backend for content features on the site. (Site members have access and can post stories and events using the full GUI, but on the other pages, I need to be able to print those stories and events without calling anything else.)
What I need is the specific function calls that print
1. 'Site Events' (COM_printUpcomingEvents)
2. 'Older Stories'
3. Story text
4. Event text.
This, for example, is what the news block will look like, customized for things like image bullets. The splash draft can be seen here.
Obviously, I found the upcoming events block code. The other three are eluding me in some way. I've also considered finding a code snippet that will read RSS feeds, avoiding the issue of needing to find the specific calls, or customize the functions once I've found them, but I can't find any such code that isn't an entirely too-complex package.
Any help would be much appreciated.
