i just don't understand what the purpose of these WYSIWYG editors that simply use a different markup system than html to markup content, which is then converted to html anyway.
just another markup language it seems to me.
is html that hard? i think it is a lot easier than that texttile stuff or that wikiwig thingy. but that's just me.
please feel free to straighten me out.
i think i must just be missing the point.

Well I guess its easier for a sysadmin to install it than to spend the time and explain even the basic principles of html to someone.
also, its easier for some people who dont use it too much to use htmlarea instead of looking up certain formats in selfhtml each time they use it.
further, for people who like to use MS Word or something like this as their email-editor, and who dont know yet that a simple layout is easier to read than a overloaded, overanimated, overdesigned text, would take far too much time designing all this with notepad...
I myself have to deal with some people who pay money to get a geeklog site but are not willing to know how to use a
... like people who drive a car and cant refill it... some god out there will show them one day the right path to a simple layout!

I probably spent 12 hours yesterday trying to get htmlarea 3.0rc1 into GeekLog. I finally got it working the way I wanted, but to my dismay, it still has lots of bugs when using Mozilla . I use Mozilla FireFox and Linux .
I currently use a text editor and by hand insert html, then cut-n-paste into GeekLog. With a WYSIWYG editor, I can edit on-line. In theory, I could add stories from the local library pretty easy.

actually I tried it once also. Its a pain. I dont like all this scripted stuff for that matter. I dont know too much about it either which does not make it any better.
I think finally its the easiest and quickest to make another page where you edit and then just cut & paste instead of trying to insert it directly into geeklog. the heavy template usage is not the right think for javascript I guess.

Were you able to get it to work in Firefox? I installed it no problem and got it to work fine with Internet Explorer on my site. However, it does not work at all in Firefox.
I don't really have much experience with Firefox as I only recently installed it and still use IE most of the time, but I do notice that some of the visitors to my site use it so it would be helpful if html area worked for them as well.
As someone who knows html I find html area a pain sometimes. But many of my users do not know anything about html and it does make it easier for me when they can actually post their own stories and comments formatted correctly.

Yeah, FireFox does not work very well with htmlarea. It stutters too. Thats why I have abandoned it for now. FireFox is wired, IE is tired.
