custom forum vs phpbb bridge

why has this site chosen to use the custum forum and not the bridge? if i migrate to a different bb in the future or upgrade bb, which solution would be easier to use (the database of users is full) the custum or the bridge? thank you

I'd say, if you already have a phpBB forum or there's some feature in phpBB that you need, then by all means use the bridge.
Personally, I'd go with the Forum plugin for any new installs. I've tried getting some sort of integration / cooperation with YaBB going for a while before I eventually gave up. The plugin does everything I needed so far ...
