Let's say a user/program who has never heard of geeklog tries to enter a geeklog site.
If the RSS feed is turned on, how does he/her/it know its URL?
Most sites have a link for it somewhere visible.
I know this site has a "link rel=alternate" header, which is better than nothing, but, since it's hidden, I guess it's meant more for a program that for a human, right?
Be it as it may, why doesn't my site, which has it on, at least have this header? Is there a place to enable it or must I enter it manually in the templates?

It's a convention I picked up somewhere. Not sure which programs make use of it. Mozilla, for example, does display a link under "more / other versions" when you switch on its Site Navigation Bar.

Yes, you have to add it manually.
Is it really worth doing an extra SQL request every time a page is loaded (to find out which feeds exists) when the alternative is that the site owner has to add that link manually once?
And to really advertise a feed, I would stick one of those orange RSS or XML icons in a more prominent place anyway.
bye, Dirk

But where? Some may prefer it in the header, some would like to see it in the footer, others in a side block ...
bye, Dirk
