Hey,
I would like to edit my Geeklog design (not blocks), and do stuff like change the picture at the top. How do I do this?

You should edit your theme files.
To do this go to public_html/layout/your_theme
To just change "the picture on top", you have to edit the 'header.thtml file.
If you wan't to change more, you can do it with the other files in this directory. The names of the files should make everything quite clear.

Yes, you're right. By doing it this way I got a much better understanding of Geeklog. I'm now even making my own plugin and it's gowing good so far. If I've completed this rather simple plugin I will share it with you guys. (Be ware, it doesn't has a real use, it's just for fun!) I'm even thinking of porting kill monster to geeklog. (And by this giving it his first game?)

So, pay attention, before you even know it, you could become a Geeklog addict!
