Database Backups
I've been experimenting with database backups. (Geeklog DB Back up does not work for me with my hosting company).
When I manaully download the file, I downloaded with gzip compression.
When I uploaded it into another database, I see the totals all match except the file size, which is smaller by up to 5% (depending on original file size).
Out of curiosity, I switched my Geeklog to access the newer database and all seems to woirk fine..
Should I not compress the file? Am I losing some small amounts of data? Or is this OK? Am I asking for trouble with compression?

phpMyAdmin has quite a few options for backups, e.g. to insert DROP statements, to add extra quotes, etc. Those could easily explain the difference. Are you sure you had the exact same options in both cases?
