Required field in custom registration

I managed to add a custom field in my user registration form. The only part I can't seem to figure out is how to implement a required field. Where should I put the check if a certain custom field is not filled in? And how do I throw an error message?
Thanks.
Thanks.

You will need to use Javascript if you want to have the validation done by the client. Otherwise, you will need to add logic (PHP Code) in your script where the form posts to and them validate. It's usually a lot easier to add some basic javascript.
