links and images don't connect on default web

I have installed a local copy of Geeklog on a Windows XP PC using EasyPHP. I can get the default webpage to display however none of the images for the buttons or the links to the other web pages will display. I see the images have a path for instance for the mail icon of http://localhost/layout/professional/images/mail.gif
and the link to the polls for instance links to http://localhost/pollbooth.php. My path on my windows XP system to the default install website is C:EasyPHP1-7wwwpublic_htmllayoutprofessional. If I navigate manually to the locations the web pages and icons are present.
It seems there is a path problem but I am not sure where to look or where to change it. It is my understanding that themes go under the layout directory and then everything will display correctly. Any suggestions??

Resolved by copying everything from my public_html folder to the the www folder under EasyPHP. Should have worked when I set the $_CONF['path_html'] to C:/EasyPHP1-7/www/public_html/ but only works with 'C:/EasyPHP1-7/www/'; . All web pages and images now display proberly however can not view pages after loggin into my Admin account so that I can change blocks add submissions etc. It reports "The page cannot be found" errors. Tried renaming admin file to myadmin and changing the path but no change. For instance when I click on the blocks link to change the block setup I get the page not found error yet the page seems to go to the correct place with the url showing http://localhost/admin/block.php. Very strange
