index.php can be index1.php?

Can I rename index.php so that the root of my domain doesn't go to the geeklog but I can link to it from my site?

The name of index.php can not be changed. Geeklog depends on that name is many places. What you can do is set your web server to serve up a different default page (i.e. default.php instead of index.php). Check out the documentation for your web server for details.

thanks! (not that I know what that meant)
Let me ask you this then.
If I were to create a dir inside my public html area and named it 'news' and put all the public html files in that and called the index.php from there, would I have to do a Reinstall and would that require a fresh empty database to start over with?
I need to ask my server to create one so I wanted to know before I started if that's what I'm going to need.
Really appreciate the help.
Nevermind! I moved it to a dir of its own and didn't have to reinstall so thanks thanks thanks!

If you're using an apache web server all you need to is add something like
to your .htaccess file to get index.html to be shown before index.php if it exists when accessing the url http://site.url/
You can move your geeklog files into /news, you don't need to make any changes to your database, but you will have to update your config.php and lib-common.php with the new location (see the install instructions).
