I have been experiencing some trouble with anonymous visitors leaving comments to stories on my site even though I've disabled comments when posting.
This really wouldn't be too bad but they are linking to Pornographic sites with subjects such as INCEST.
I recently upgraded to the latest geek release so I'm not 100% sure if this will continue but the 'spammers' come from different IP addresses every time but leave the same two links via comments every time.
After disabling comments in stories the comments are still logged in the system but do not show up under the stories themselves. I have been manually pruning them from the DB.
Are comments supposed to be collected / accepted when they are disabled?
There doesn't seem to be a comment approval system or a place to find them waiting to be reviewed so I'm curious why they are being added to the DB in the first place.
Best regards,
Andyofne

Which Geeklog version was this? Older versions had a few bugs that let anonymous comments through even if that option was disabled.
These bug have all been fixed now and the SpamX plugin takes care of the rest.
You should check for upgrades more regularily (and/or subscribe to our geeklog-announce mailing list). We did release security updates for those bugs and there were quite a few discussions at the time here on the forum ...
bye, Dirk

Quote by andyofne: I was using 1.3.11rc1 and upgraded yesterday to the 1.3.11.
The last comment spam problem was fixed in 1.3.9sr2. I have yet to hear of any problems with this in 1.3.10 or 1.3.11.
Given that you also seem to have some strange upgrade problems, I have to wonder if maybe you're running on a mixture of old and new Geeklog files.
What was the last version you were running before 1.3.11rc1?
bye, Dirk
