Calendar Hack Dynamic Categories probs

Has anyone got the Calendar Hack - Dynamic Categories working that can be found in the downloads section. I have spent hours trying to get it up and running. The calendar page displays ok but all users see the categories that are part of the admin group.
The problem I had is the diff in each file from the originals. If someone has it working could they post a better install tut.
I am using gl 1.3.11
