Question about permissions
Hi,
I'm very new to Geeklog, but so far I'm loving it! It seems very intuitive and flexible...
I have a question, though. I do not wish to allow visitors (even Registered ones) to contribute news stories, nor to I want to allow Anonymous users to add comments. In other words, I'm going to be the only person allowed to add stories and such...
Is that something that is "doable" with Geeklog? Or is this sofware strictly for collaborative type sites?
I've looked around in the Users and Groups admin pages of my site, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do what I need...
Thanks in advance for any help. I very much appreciate it.
Regards,
Mike

By default, I think only Story admins can contribute new stories, unless I changed this configuration and don't remember it (I'm new to Geeklog also). And any time a user is created, they aren't given such administrative permission. You can check this by going to the Users section from the admin account, and selecting a user. A bunch of check boxes will be listed allowing you to grant permissions. It helps to create a second account for yourself that has only the default permissions. Then you can log in using that username and browse the site as if you were a brand new member. For example I have an admin account "Admin" with all permissions, as well as a default account "AdminTest" that I log in as to test the site and make sure I'm not letting people do things that I don't want them doing.
As for comments, there's a checkbox somewhere that lets you turn them on and off. I can't seem to find it at the moment though...

Geeklog is mainly aimed at "collaborative" sites, so you won't find any options to actually prevent people from submitting stories, links, etc. There are options to prevent anonymous users from submitting (check config.php), though. And you can hide the links to the submit pages.
Please check the documentation, the FAQ, and the forums - all this has been discussed before.
bye, Dirk

When you submit a story, there's a dropdown box with options to Disable Comments for that story.
