Hi.
I'm involved in a transnational political organisation and was recently elected to organise our website. I've been using Geeklog in a couple of projects before and now I want to use it in this project.

If anyone could help me on the following issues, that would be great!
1. I want to configure Geeklog to identify the visitors nation and language and to put out the website in the visitor's own language. If this isn't possible I wonder if it's possible to use a drop-down menu for choosing language, like in PHP Nuke.

2. I'm having a hard time figuring out the structure of the website's content. Each localgroup of the organisation should be quite "sovereign" when it comes to calendar, topics, downloads and so on. At the same time, these localgroups should be joined together in some sort of main site. Any suggestions on this issue?

Please help!

You can't do that, at least not reliably.

You could go by the IP address (there are ways to map that to an area), but how would you then know if it's an American accessing your site from, say, Germany.

You could go by the preferred language that the browser reports - but the user may be unaware that s/he can even change that.

So whatever you do, give the visitor an option to override the language manually.

Euan is our resident expert in designing multi-language Geeklog sites. Have a look at some of his posts, e.g. here and here.

bye, Dirk
