Well, it appears your site is #2 for the search term "altermedicine", so it's not as if Google doesn't know about your site.
If you hope to be found for "alternative medicine", then you're up against 27.8 million(!) other hits, so you've got some work to do. Try and get more high-ranked sites linking to you ...
But it's usually easier to get a good ranking for a not so common search term. If "altermedicine" is something people interested in alternative medicine are likely to understand and look for, then I would work with that phrase.
bye, Dirk
P.S. You did see the link to Google's tips in the FAQ?

When you have a look at the source code of you site you'll see that Google will have to crawl quite far to find any (links to) content.
And Google loves to find lots of content, beginning at the left top of your site, and at your site the first thing Google spots is the Submit link...
Try this:
*Make a line on the very top of your site and put there some text with good keywords in a H1/H2/H3.. tag. Link this line to your siteindex.php!
*Add some keywords in a kind of sentence to your site title.
*When you use GL1.3.11: use the new function in the story editor to change the storyID to something Google understands.
*Make a static page on top of your home page, fill it with a short but great intro.
*Make the introtext of the articles a bit longer.
*Why don't you rename the topic ID's to something Google understands?? Now your menu links look like:
http://altermedicine.org/index.php?topic=2005010801033490
Google would like to see this:
http://altermedicine.org/index.php?topic=Healthy_Cooking_Recipes
*If you know some php/html: change the siteindex.php so that the stories are in the left column.
*Get listed on other websites, link pages and directories, especially dmoz.org since that is a reference for Google. Be sure to have a good description of your site ready, using some important keywords, so if you're able to submit your site description at some link page always use the very same description. That way Google will see your site's name and link more often near the same keywords.
You may keywords more than once but not in the same sentence/paragraph.
It's worth trying. I don't promise a top 10 ranking, but I can promise you that your position will become less worse...
