syndication admin menu not showing option for generating an RSS feed for stories

I am little puzzled at this... the syndication admin menu allows me to create feeds for either links or events, but not for stories!! When I want to create a new feed, the 'contents' drop-down menu has only 2 choices, "Links" or "Events".
I have no idea how to make it list "Stories" as well??
I have the following variables set in config.php
$_CONF['backend'] = 1; // 1 = activate feeds, 0 = off
$_CONF['rdf_file'] = $_CONF['path_html'] . 'backend/geeklog.rdf';
$_CONF['rdf_limit'] = 10; // number of stories (10) or hours (24h)
$_CONF['rdf_storytext'] = 1;
$_CONF['rdf_language'] = 'en-gb';
If someone has a clue I'd be glad to ear..
thanks!

I found the reason, and I am stupid
I didn't set anonymous read permission for any of my topics. As soon as I set the read permission for all topics, the drop-down menu showed the option for "All Storied" or by topic.
This makes sense, as the RSS feed file can be seen by anybody
