possible to show show poll on static page

Is there a way to show the poll block on an static page?
I'm building a site with GL where only one news topic is used and the rest of the content gets displayed on 5 static pages. I searched the forum and FAQ but coulnd't find an answer, only a workaround to append blocks to a static page (by adding &topic=YourTopic to the page's URL -> I don't use the topics block and created empty topics for that method). So my (sloppy) workaround just shows a block which holds a link to the poll. Also, why has the poll block editor 'topic: all' as a default option but the block only gets displayed on the home page (when set so in the poll editor)?
In light of that, I have three more questions:
Is it possible to enable blocks on the links page?
Is there a way to edit the what's related block of an article so it shows just 'more by author'? I only found possible references in blockheader-related.thtml and blockfooter-related.thtml.
How did you realize the 'docs directory' link in the default story (Welcome to Geeklog!)?
thanks!
