Title tags for individual static pages

I am looking for a way to change the title tag on individual static pages in Geeklog rather than having all the pages with the same title tag.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

You can override the static pages header and footer templates in the same way as for side blocks.

Thanks Dirk,

I searched the forums and other areas, but couldn't come across instructions for overriding a side block or header. Can you point me to where it is?

Thanks,

Here is the original post by Tony describing how you can use different template files for left and right blocks (that post is linked from the Tips and tricks section of the theme documentation, btw).

The same prinicple works with static pages, only you have to use '_staticpages_block' as the block name.

Unfortunately, I am not a programmer, so I don't understand how this works. I guess I will have to hire a programmer to see if they understand how that piece of code would change the title of a page.

With the number of people looking to improve search engine ranking, it would seem that a feature where you could change the title on a static page would be a useful and in-demand one.

When you visit a web site, the title tag is what controls the name of the site in the top bar of the browser. For example, if you go to my web site http://www.ebusinesstutor.com and then look at the top blue bar of your IE Browser, you will see a title of "Web site promotion online courses,...."

I can set this title in Geeklog, but only for the whole site. I want my static pages to have a different title. For example, if I create a static page with e-book marketing resources, the title should reflect this.

This is critical for search engine optimization and I may have to switch from Geeklog if it can't be solved.

I love Geeklog, so I would hate to do this.

Hmm. This is a static page: Get Support.

Notice the title? This is not a customisation, this is the standard behaviour for a few versions now ...

Do you have this in your header.thtml file?
Text Formatted Code

<title>{page_title}</title>

If not you should :-)
Yes I am mental.

Yes... this is what I thought too and why I was confused if I misunderstood something Wink

Hmm, funny, I thought that this was something that was not possible with Geeklog. I checked on one of my sites running GL1.3.11 but it doesn't work there, not with stories or static pages. Guess Í forgot to upgrade some files since a very new sited (installed from the same tarball!) works fine,, but which files?

IIRC, COM_siteHeader has been extended to accept the title to be displayed, so lib-common.php would be the first file to check.
