Any idea of developing a forum that will be less resource intensive like
minibb [ minibb.net ]
or having features like jabber instant messaging ( the GL community so far silent on jabber ) like http://newsboard.unclassified.de
this forum is also very user friendly - shows online icon and let bookmark ( not subscribe ) favorite topics but more handy becoz of qquick reply features

Although I personally would like to see a SMF (Simple Machine Forums) bridge/plug-in, there is a phpBB plug-in (as noted on the Geeklog news/front page). check it out...it works very well!
