I want to set up a "fileserver", for sharing files between participants on a project.
For this to become simple there should be an option to edit the file as well when selecting "edit file". Then users with the correct permissions could update a specific file in a folder without first deleting the existing file then add all fields again.
Is this doable, and what is the simple solution?

This is on the radar for the next version. It shouldn't be too difficult, but I haven't given it any real thought yet. Off the top of my head, you would need to alter file.class.php, /admin/plugins/easyfile/file.php and the relevant templates.
Related question: what would the correct way to edit file dates be? Should the date be automatically updated when the file is updated, or should there be UI to set the date arbitrarily?

Would be cool if it said something like:
"This file was updated on 5-26-2005 by Gavin" or something similar. As well as keeping the original uploaded date.
Yes I am mental.

Excellent suggestion. I was planning on changing the database slightly for the next version anyway (to support screen shots), so this shouldn't be a problem.
Current plans for v0.8:
- allow admins to update files
- support for screen shot attachments
- allow longer file titles (64 characters?)
- drop the easyfile.admin feature (it's completely redundant anyway)
- adjust access rights functionality (right now, you can have less restrictive rights on a file than on a folder. This will be changed to make it more Geeklog(tm))
- suggestions?

Maybe fixed already, but I was thinking about the integration to the geeklog submission system. It works already, 'cept for one thing: no notificartion email to admin upon upload to trig the said admin to login and approve....
