layout of different topics

Just a thought - is there any way of have each topic display differently? For example, 'news' topic stories on the home page might have a small pic with them and bold text whereas a story in the 'review' topic won't have a picture and not bold text.

What you could do is to "wrap" your story.thtml in a new class like this
....
all the storytext.thtml stuff
...
</div>
and than define your styles in the css file like:
.review { font-weight:normal;}
where the class name must fit the Category NAME (not the ID)
For the image... just define no image in the categories

Text Formatted Code
<div class="{story_topic_name}">....
all the storytext.thtml stuff
...
</div>
and than define your styles in the css file like:
Text Formatted Code
.news { font-weight:bold }.review { font-weight:normal;}
For the image... just define no image in the categories

Crikey - that was quick!
OK, here's another one. How can I get my 'news' topic intro stuff to appear in one of the side blocks and not the middle of the page? I already have the plug-in that lists stories by topic but that just brings in the headline - I want the headline, pic (if there is one) and the intro text in the right block.
Any direction I should be taking here?

Wouldn't that be a bit crammed?
You'll have to write some code to do that. A "PHP block" is what you're looking for.
Btw, as for your original question, also have a look here.
bye, Dirk
