Right now when a new members registers for my site, they put in their username and email address - then an automated email is sent to their email address which contains a randomly generated password.

Has anyone here been able to change that? I would prefer it if they could enter in their own password during sign-up, then get an email with an activation link. It seems that I have a lot of people signing up, but then not using the forums. I have a feeling that is contributed to the curring registration process - the few people that do post, usually only do so once or twice then disappear, and I'm thinking it is because they never changed their password then forgot what it was. Additionally, the current process allows for lots of people to get signed up without actually confirming it by email, so I'm thinking there are spammer bots adding users.
