Problem: I have a geeklog site on an intranet that needs to pull a password protected RSS feed.
In order to anticipate the question "why would you password protect an RSS feed in the first place?"...this is inside a city government and there is some information that's sensitive but not classified or private. A lot of types of information such as emergency responder, 911 or project statuses end up in buckets like this.
So, I've discovered the Portal Block has no provision for providing a username/password to pull a password protected RSS feed. Am I missing something, or is there a hack out there someone's done which supports this? If not, what's the best approach to provide a portal block for protected RSS?
Thanks,
Landon

they are probaqly useing http-auth
you can set the username and pass in the url by doing http://<username>:<password>@<domainname>.<tld>/path/to/feed
(i think i got that syntax right)
This is asumeing the feed classes suport http-auth
you can set a password on rss feeds by useing a .htaccess file and a .htpasswd file
